'MELBOURNE GARDEN'

A contemporary garden and outdoor living area in Melbourne.

Inspired by Melbourne’s culture, climate and local materials, Melbourne’s Garden is a contemporary garden and outdoor living area with a distinctive Melbourne flavour.  It is also a garden built along sustainable principles in keeping with AQL’s philosophy of sustainable design.

The most significant structure is within the garden is a geometric bluestone wall, inspired by the grid layout of Melbourne’s streets that divides the space into three separate rooms; a herb garden, an orchard and an outdoor kitchen.

Melbourne’s love affair with sport and in particular horse racing is referenced within the garden.  The external boundary walls were salvaged from 100 year old Flemington stable walls while the raised herb gardens are planted in horse feed bags.

The planting features shade trees, summer colour and hedges for privacy and an orchard- a common feature of many early Melbourne gardens.
