The design intent was to create an educational memorial along the river environs, designed to attract an audience beyond those who served, celebrating VC recipient Albert Jacka, and the all 64 VC recipients in one location.
The walk will be beautifully landscaped and connect the town to the river environs. The ‘Walk of Honour” project will compliment and take advantage of the ‘Growing Winchelsea, place making project” which aims to assist Winchelsea to grow and thrive taking advantage of new opportunities as they present beautify a space which is currently under-utilised and provide improved connectivity along the Barwon Environs corridor by encouraging pedestrian and cycle movements between both sides of the river . The ‘Walk of Honour’ will also provide a modern education opportunity for students and visitors to the area,
The design intent will also consider linking the memorial walk into the historical walk promoting and educating the visitors on the historical elements of Winchelsea and surrounding districts'
The three triangular shape printed glass art panels honour the current Victoria cross recipients of Australia, Local Victoria cross recipient Albert Jacka VC those who served in Boer war,World war 1,World war 2, Korean war, Vietnam war and peacekeepers.
The lighting of the three glass pyramid cairns creates an ambient mood of the memorial whilst also providing access and viewing of the art panel at night-time.
